🎮 What is Momentum Mod?

Momentum Mod is a first-person platforming game built on Valve’s Source Engine that centralizes movement-oriented game modes from games like CS:S, TF2, HL2, and Titanfall, all in one game! Speed is literally the name of the game, with game modes offering unique styles of play, centered around one goal: go fast!

︎ Designed Steam library assets
︎Provisioned various game iconography
︎Attended weekly meetings & elected as Dept. Head!
︎1,600+ hours of QA Testing, user feedback
︎Designed low & high-fidelity mockups in PS and Figma
︎Utilized Figma to collaborate and create interactive mockups

❗ Issues

  1. Map selector screen was confusing, with buttons out of place
  2. Main menu screen was very minimal, designed to be placeholder
  3. Overall UI looked very out of date and empty
  4. Screen transitions were jarring and out of place
  5. Unable to display more than 5-6 maps in the map browser at once
  6. Lack of map previews or easily-accessible map information
  7. No implementation for user’s profile or profile statistics

✅ Solutions

  1. Designed a new map selector screen using research and feedback to solve user pain points
  2. Updated main menu screen to preview a random map from the user’s library in the background (optional setting)
  3. Designed a new UI palette inspired by other modern Source games (such as CS:GO)
  4. Using motion design, we created smooth fading screen transitions
  5. Updated the map selector focusing on a much larger map list to solve this issue
  6. Offered plenty of map information at-a-glance, such as completion status, difficulty, best time, and more
  7. Implemented “user cards” in the main menu’s HUD to show player stats
